Kah-wai “Buddha” Lo became this season’s Top Chef, impressing the judges all season long with his creative concepts and effortless execution. He won in the finale over Evelyn Garcia and Sarah Welch, the latter of whom impressively made her way back from Last Chance Kitchen after being originally eliminated in Episode 4.

In addition to the alumni panel, Top Chef: Houston featured a variety of pop-in appearances from famous chefs. That includes Daniel Boulud, Wylie Dufresne, Carlotta Flores, Bricia Lopez, Eric Ripert, Marcus Samuelsson and Alexander Smalls. Hunter Lewis, Editor-in-Chief of Food and Wine Magazine, joins the judges for the final challenge.
What types of challenges happened in Top Chef season 19?
According to Bravo, “The season will see the chefs as they use their expertise to take on iconic regional dishes, all while being immersed in the ethnic diversity that defines the city’s culinary identity. Houston is home to the largest Nigerian population in the country, and the chefs will be put to the test for a Quickfire spotlighting Nigerian cuisine. They will also compete in an elimination challenge tasking them to feed Houstonians at an Asian Night Market that draws inspiration from some of the city’s largest Asian communities. They will also be asked to put their own spin on favorites like BBQ, biscuits, queso, and the classic Tex-Mex original, the fajita, made popular by Houston. “The chefs will also be asked to create space-friendly dishes for former astronauts, and they’ll also head out to the Gulf with Tom for an unforgettable fishing experience. Padma tests the chefs by taking inspiration from Top Chef France’s most difficult challenge where they must create two dishes that look identical but taste completely different. Top Chef’s signature challenge, Restaurant Wars, is back with an open kitchen concept where the chefs must cook for a full dining room of guests, while also catering to an intimate tasting table for the judges. From paying tribute to the state’s female trailblazers to hosting a block party fundraiser to preserve Freedmen’s town, Season 19 is one for the history books.”

The winner of Top Chef season 18 will receive $250,000 furnished by S.Pellegrino Sparkling Natural Mineral Water, a feature in Food and Wine magazine, and an appearance at the annual “Food and Wine Classic” in Aspen. The prize money was increased starting with season 17.
How did Top Chef handle filming during the coronavirus?
As Top Chef season 19 was still filming during the pandemic, the show continued to utilize the protocols it put into place starting with last season. Everyone, including the judges, quarantined themselves in a “bubble” for the duration of filming. Additionally, the production crew’s various departments were broken up into separate zones that worked at different times. The judges were not allowed to share plates of food; tasting spoons had to be discarded after every taste; and contestants were each given their own individual spice containers, instead of sharing them. Other production changes included curbside pickup at Whole Foods Market instead of in-store shopping; the exclusion of challenges involving large dinners, tasting events, and crowds; as well as a bigger kitchen set and judges’ table to allow for more social distancing.
Is Last Chance Kitchen back for Top Chef season 19?
“Last Chance Kitchen,” the online-only Top Chef sideshow, is back for its eleventh season starting on March 10. Eliminated chefs will be given a challenge from head judge Tom Colicchio and face off for the chance to return to the competition.

Who won Top Chef season 18 Portland?
Season 18 of Top Chef produced some of the best dishes ever seen on the show. At the top of it all was Gabe Erales, who ended up taking home the win over Shota Nakajima and Dawn Burrell, the former of whom won fan favorite. However, the day before the finale, a firestorm of news hit about Erales being fired from his executive chef position for inappropriate conduct with a coworker. Host Padma Lakshmi wrote after the allegations surfaced, “As someone who has been sexually harassed, this topic is a serious one and merits openness. We filmed Top Chef in October of last year & were not aware of the allegations now coming out about Gabe. This should be investigated & the network should consider its best action.” She added that “no one has alleged sexual harassment on the record or otherwise to Bravo/Top Chef and we judges didn’t have any indication of inappropriate behavior from Gabe during his time on set.”
Is Top Chef renewed for season 20?
Yes, but the destination is still unknown. In an interview with Yahoo! Entertainment, Tom Colicchio said, “We’re going overseas for Season 20.” Additionally, Gail Simmons told the press the series would be going somewhere they’ve never been before. We’ll hopefully find out about the location closer to the season filming.
