Michael Douglas (Sandy Kominsky)
Michael Douglas plays Sandy Kominsky, an actor turned acting coach who works alongside his daughter. The son of Hollywood legend Kirk Douglas, he has made a name for himself in film and television as well, perhaps most famously known for his Oscar-winning turn as Gordon Gekko in Wall Street. He also has starred in Behind the Candelabra—where he won an Emmy and Golden Globe for his portrayal of Liberace—, the Ant-Man films, Fatal Attraction, Basic Instinct and The American President.
Sarah Baker (Mindy)
Sarah Baker plays Mindy, Sandy’s daughter and co-runner of his acting school. A graduate of the famous improv and sketch program The Groundlings, the comedian has been seen in a number of notable projects, including Big Little Lies, Young Sheldon and Go On. Her appearance on Louie in 2014’s “So Did the Fat Lady” earned a number of particularly positive reviews, including a Critics’ Choice Television Award nomination for Best Guest Performer in a Comedy Series.
Nancy Travis (Lisa)
Nancy Travis plays Lisa, a recent divorcée who starts the series as one of Sandy’s students before becoming his love interest. Starting her career on the stage, her breakout role came with Three Men and a Baby and its sequel Three Men and a Little Lady. After that, she starred on a number of TV shows, including Almost Perfect, Becker and most notably as Tim Allen’s wife on the long-running Last Man Standing.
Kathleen Turner (Roz Volander)
In seasons 1-2, Kathleen Turner appeared in a guest role as Michael Douglas’ ex-wife Roz Volander. For season 3, the highly skilled doctor joins the cast as a series regular. Roz comes to LA to spend time with their daughter Mindy. Turner and Douglas starred together in several classic movies, including Romancing The Stone, Jewel of the Nile and War of the Roses.
Who plays Martin on The Kominsky Method?
Paul Reiser plays Martin, Mindy’s older boyfriend of several years who finds a common bond with Sandy. Why Alan Arkin won’t be in The Kominsky Method season 3
Alan Arkin who has played Sandy’s agent and friend Norman Newlander for two seasons will not be in the Netflix series’ final season. Although it wasn’t reflected in the season 2 finale, sources tell Deadlinethat Arkin never planned to continue beyond two seasons. Arkin’s departure will be addressed in season 3, and Norman is being written off in its planned storyline. Arkin has a film career spanning seven decades, appearing in everything from kids’ comedies to intense spy thrillers. He won an Oscar in 2007 for his role in Little Miss Sunshine, and has also received nominations for The Russians Are Coming, the Russians Are Coming, The Heart is a Lonely Hunter and Argo.

During the show’s second season, Sandy loses further control of the school and his life, most notably as he’s diagnosed with cancer halfway through. His choice to keep it a secret puts a strain on his relationships with Mindy and Lisa, the latter of whom shares several fiery moments with him. Norman briefly sees an old flame in Madelyn (Jane Seymour) while still mourning his wife, as Phoebe returns and begins to rebuild her life post-sobriety. The season ends with Sandy visiting Norman, only to be accosted by several Scientologists who are looking for Norman’s grandson Robby (Haley Joel Osment).

The Kominsky Method’s first season won an AFI Award for Top 10 TV Programs of the Year and two Golden Globes for Best Television Series—Musical or Comedy and Best Actor for Michael Douglas.
