The murder-turned-mystical drama series starring Cole Sprouse, Madelaine Petsch, KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart, and Camila Mendes has dominated TV since 2017. Now that the story has endured a time jump and introduced supernatural elements, there’s still plenty of drama left to go down in the Town With Pep. In fact, Riverdale is one of several The CW shows that received an early renewal for the 2022-23 season, including All American, The Flash, Nancy Drew, Kung Fu, Superman & Lois, and Walker. “These scripted series… will serve as the start of a solid foundation utilizing some of our most-watched series for us to build on for next year and beyond,” chairman and CEO of The CW Network Mark Pedowitz said in a statement, “These dramas are also important to our overall digital strategy, as they are some of our most-streamed and socially-engaged programming, and we look forward to adding more new and returning series to help strengthen and expand our multi-platform footprint.” Of course, news about the Riverdale renewal just dropped on March 22, 2022, so there’s not a ton of information yet on Season 7, but here’s everything we know about so far on Riverdale Season 7—from the premiere date to how to stream the show.
Is Riverdale ending?
Despite rampant rumors that Riverdale may be ending, the show has actually been picked up for another season. Recently, showrunner and creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa adamantly denied rumors that the series was coming to a close. “Wide open,” Aguirre-Sacasa told Deadline. “One of the great gifts about this season is that we are exploring, yet again, a different genre, and I hope fans really respond to it. But there’s still so many things to discover about these characters. We’re still in the midst of writing and producing Season 6. Things have only started! There’s so much more to come.” While some rumors have extended from the fact that Riverdale seems to really be experimenting with its overall genre and storylines, Reinhart, who plays Betty Cooper, also fueled the fire in a December 2021 Instagram Live in which she said Season 7 “would probably be the last one.” Aguirre-Sacasa added, “There’s still juice in the tank, as far as I’m concerned, at least. As long as the show remains meaningful to people, and people are invested in it, there’s definitely, definitely, definitely gas in the tank.”
What is the Riverdale Season 7 premiere date and time?
While it’s been confirmed by the network that the series will definitely come back for a seventh season, other than that, a premiere date and time has not yet been announced.
What happened in the Riverdale Season 6?
Ever since Season 6 kicked off, things in Riverdale have taken a turn. Not for the worse, exactly, but definitely for the spooky. Not only did the show introduce supernatural elements for the first time as part as an inverse universe called Rivervale, but Kiernan Shipka also joined the cast for a bit as her character Sabrina Spellman from The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina on Netflix. But that’s hardly the end of it. Cheryl and Sabrina teamed together to cast a revenge curse on the entire town after Cheryl learned that ancestors of Betty, Archie, and Jughead burned Cheryl’s cousin, Abigail, at the stake, claiming she was a witch. Now, in Rivervale, there’s more than just one mystical element a la Sabrina and Cheryl’s spell-casting. Fans have seen a devil come to town, Archie physically get his heart ripped from his chest, and you know, the entire town even joined a witch cult. Things are more supernatural and fantastical than ever! “One of the things that we really worked hard on is to make sure that these five episodes,” Aguirre-Sacasa told TVLine of part one of Season 6. “But it was really important to make sure that they were what we call ‘in continuity,’ meaning that things that happen in Rivervale would continue or echo or speak to the events of Riverdale. Every year, we start very disparate storylines, and we always try to weave them all together, and this year is no exception.”
Is there a Riverdale Season 7 trailer?
Season 6 of Riverdale is still currently debuting on TV, so as of right now, not much information about Season 7 has been released. That includes no trailer as of yet—which we guess we’ll just have to wait around for!
Is the entire Riverdale cast returning?
Every year, there are always rumors of someone leaving the Riverdale cast. Most recently, Mark Consuelos, who played Veronica’s father Hiram Lodge as a season regular, officially left the show. But, you know, out with the old and in with the new: Consuelos’ departure meant the arrival of Chris O’Shea (of Netflix’s You fame), who became the newest resident of Rivervale, Percival Pickens. First presented as a charming, innocent guy, Pickens quickly proved throughout Season 6 that he was actually a major bad guy with devilish intentions. As of right now, no major cast announcements have been made, so at this point, it’s safe to say we can expect the season regulars to return to reprise their roles—including the Core Four (duh!), Petsch, and Mächen Amick as Alice Cooper, Casey Cott as Kevin Keller, Charles Melton as Reggie Mantle, Vanessa Morgan as Toni Topaz, Drew Ray Tanner as Fangs Fogarty, and Erinn Westbrook as Tabitha Tate.
How will Riverdale end?
Right now, Riverdale seems to have no end in sight but even still, Aguirre-Sacasa has always been relatively transparent about how the series will eventually come to an end. “Some of the executives that we pitched it to said: ‘So is this just a high school show?’“Aguirre-Sacasa revealed. “I remember thinking: ‘Gosh I hope not, I hope it continues into young adulthood.’ It’s funny, I remember back in the day saying: ‘To me, I think Riverdale ends when Archie has a child.’” So, if you’re looking for any indicator at all as to when Riverdale may officially come to an end, wait for Archie to either become a father or, you know, get a girl pregnant.
