In a video that was taped for Vax Live, a charity concert to ‘reunite the world’, Meghan and her baby bump looked absolutely stunning in a paprika-red shirt dress with a pink floral print. Meghan—who is due to give birth to a daughter in early summer—accessorized the $1690 dress by Carolina Herrara with dangling earrings, her gold Cartier watch, her gold Cartier ‘Love’ bracelet, and her $3000 gold tennis bracelet by Jennifer Meyer. Her coolest piece of jewelry, however, was a necklace created by Awe Inspired in honor of Kamala Harris, the first woman Vice-President of the United States. Featuring an upraised fist enclosed within the symbol commonly used to represent the female sex (♀ is also the symbol of the Roman goddess Venus), the charm is studded with a purple amethyst and is actually part of a set—its sister necklace features a ‘goddess coin’ charm imprinted with Kamala Harris’s face. It was an appropriate choice of jewelry for Meghan’s speech, which focused on the ways in which the COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately affected women and girls. In a speech which appears to have been filmed in the garden of the Sussexes’ home in Montecito, California, the duchess said that she and Harry are “thrilled” to be preparing for the birth of their daughter, adding, “When we think of her, we think of all the young women and girls around the globe who must be given the ability and support to lead us forward.” As campaign chairs of Vax Live, Meghan and Harry believe it is “critical” to ensure that everyone across the world has the chance to recover from the devastating consequences of COVID. “It’s going to take every one of us to find our way forward,” Meghan said. She went on to describe how “women, and especially women of color, have seen a generation of economic gain wiped out”, and went on, “Since the pandemic began, nearly 5.5 million women have lost work in the U.S., and 47 million more women around the world are expected to slip into extreme poverty.” Although Meghan couldn’t personally attend the concert, her husband the Duke of Sussex was welcomed to the stage with a standing ovation courtesy of a crowd of vaccinated frontline workers. In a powerful speech, he said, “this pandemic cannot end unless we act collectively with an unprecedented commitment to our shared humanity,” adding, “The vaccine must be distributed to everyone everywhere. “We cannot rest or truly recover until there is fair distribution to every corner of the world.” He went on, “The virus does not respect borders and access to the vaccine cannot be determined by geography. It must be accepted as a basic right for all and that is our starting point.” The concert, which was taped last week, was hosted by Selena Gomez and featured performances by Jennifer Lopez, Eddie Vedder and Foo Fighters. President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden recorded a speech in which they urged people to “go get vaccinated”, while Ben Affleck, Chrissy Teigen and Jimmy Kimmel were among the guest speakers.
