Back in 2013, the longtime co-host was let go from her spot at the table of ABC’s morning talkshow, The View. Nine years later, she’s happy to laugh about it. “I was glad to be fired,” she told TIME magazine. “I basically was sick of the show at that point for some reason, I don’t even remember why.” Prior to her departure, Behar had maintained her regular position on the show since its inception in 1997, according to IMDB. Her 16-year-long career at the time, while impressive, wasn’t without its controversies though, due to statements she made over-the-years as co-host. “I just say what I say,” Behar stated. “And then they’re upset with me. I’m their favorite target over at Breitbart and Fox.” While Behar was never given an official reason for her termination, shortly after her departure was announced, she told People magazine that “somebody wanted me gone, it was not 100 percent my choice." “The way I heard it, and I don’t know what’s true because you never know, they got rid of a Republican so they wanted to get rid of a Democrat, that’s not the first time I’ve been fired for my politics. So I wasn’t shocked at that analysis,” she explained. No, she wasn’t shocked; in fact, Behar was glad–a feeling she maintains to this day; even after rejoining the show as co-host seven years ago. While the last nine years, multiple guest appearances, and a new invitation to join The View have wiped Behar’s memory of why she was so happy to leave, the answer can be found in previous statements made by the TV personality. In 2013 she told interviewers: “When they told me they weren’t renewing, I said, ‘Good, I’m out of here.’ I didn’t like the way the show was going at that time.” Clearly, everything has been sorted out to Behar’s liking as she celebrated the show’s 25th season on Friday.
