The film will premiere exclusively on Fox Entertainment’s free streaming service, Tubi, later this month, TVLine reports. The new movie, adapted from the highly-publicized defamation case between the two Hollywood stars, is expected to follow the former couple’s “tumultuous relationship, both inside and outside the courtroom,” according to the outlet. Depp, 59, will be portrayed by Days of Our Lives alum Mark Hapka, while actress Megan Davis will play Heard, 36. Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial—written by Guy Nicolucci and directed by Sarah Lohman—comes from Fox Entertainment’s MarVista Entertainment. Tubi’s chief content officer, Adam Lewinson, said in a statement that the phrase “Hot Take” was included in the film’s title “for a reason,” after the polarizing defamation case took the world by storm back in the spring. “With our partners at MarVista, this Tubi Original was fast-tracked into production to capture a timely take on a story that became part of the cultural zeitgeist, painting a unique picture of what millions watched play out in the headlines over the summer,” Lewinson added, per TVLine. After Depp and Heard battled it out in court for weeks, a verdict was delivered in June, with the Pirates of the Caribbean actor receiving over $10 million in damages after the jury found Heard’s 2018 op-ed about domestic violence defamatory. The Aquaman actress is currently appealing the verdict, while Depp is also appealing Heard’s victory in part of her countersuit, for which she was awarded $2 million. Hannah Pillemer, EVP creative of affairs for MarVista called the upcoming film “one of many timely, culturally relevant original movies to come from our expanding partnership and slate of movies being produced in collaboration with Tubi,” according to Variety. “Connecting viewers to stories with this kind of social currency and topicality make watching them a must for any fan of pop culture or celebrity drama," Pillemer added. Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial will begin streaming on Tubi Friday, Sept. 30. More News:
