Carson and Faith’s relationship got off to a rocky start at the beginning of season 8 when Carson became worried that Faith (Andrea Brooks) hadn’t made it back to Hope Valley. When Faith returned, later than expected and appearing to be having the time of her life, Carson felt a bit slighted and told her so. The two eventually kissed and made up, but then another wrench was thrown into the works when Carson got an offer for a prestigious fellowship at John Hopkins in Baltimore. We’re taking a deeper look into Paul Greene’s storylines, fan theories about why he’s leaving and more.
Is Paul Greene leaving When Calls the Heart?
Hallmark has issued no official statement on whether Paul Greene is leaving the show or whether he’s returning for season 9, but we sure hope he sticks around! Fans love his character, Dr. Carson, and the actor who portrays him too. Greene frequently engages with the Hearties and like-minded fans on social media, including live streams of his impromptu backyard concerts. Greene also hosts a popular podcast, The Grass Is Always Greener.—one of his recent episodes featuring Daniel Lissing, who left When Calls the Heart in season 5.
Why Paul Greene may be leaving When Calls the Heart
If Carson does decide to take the fellowship in Baltimore, we think it would be a perfect opening for another spinoff! With the future of When Hope Calls still up in the air, Hallmark Channel has a prime opportunity to take a well-received character and build a show around him. A doctor’s life in the big city—think of it as a turn of the century version of ER or New Amsterdam! A spinoff could also serve as an opportunity to bring Lori Loughlin’s character, Abigail Stanton, back into the fold. Fans well remember that Abigail was literally sent packing to care for her ill mother back East after Loughlin was caught up in the Varsity Blues college admissions scandal. As forgiveness is one of the overall themes of When Calls the Heart, the network could take a cue from the series and forgive Loughlin for her transgressions and allow the Full House actress to return to Hallmark Channel and the When Calls the Heart family while not estranging fans of the original show. Of course, this could also give life once again to the #Henrigail movement (started by yours truly) and revive the possible romance between Henry Gowen (Martin Cummins) and Abigail that more and more fans have embraced over the seasons. There is only one new project currently listed for Green on IMDB—a satirical comedy called WeWoke. According to Greene, he plays a “a MAGA hat-wearing Republican, but he’s in a hippie commune.” Greene mentions the project on his podcast after his guest, Chris McNally, comments on the mustache he grew for the part.
Did Dr. Carson take the job in Baltimore?
In the March 28 episode, “No Regrets,” we learn that Carson turned down the fellowship in Baltimore, but the doctor who offered the opportunity reaches out again, insistent that Carson reconsider. On top of that, Faith tells him he should not pass up this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, even if it means leaving her and Hope Valley.
Will Carson return to Hope Valley?
By the season 8 finale, Carson took the fellowship and moved to Baltimore. It doesn’t appear likely Carson will return to Hope Valley in the new season, but we’ll have to tune in to see. There’s always season 10!
What is Paul Greene doing now?
